Heels.com Helps Local Job Hunters

Heels.com, on of our clients whose affiliate program we manage on Commission Junction, brought their product and support literally to the feet of women in Charlotte, NC yesterday.  In a highly philanthropic effort, Heels.com visited the office of Joblink in Charlotte and surprised female job hunters who were present by giving away free shoes.  This awesome event was covered by the local news station in Charlotte.  I’m very proud of Heels.com, not just for becoming a successful online retailer, but for reinvesting in their community so earnestly and so quickly.  Here is the full text of the news article, including a great video:

Baretta McKnight didn’t expect what she got when she walked in the doors of the North Tryon Street Joblink office.

“I feel like Cinderella,” she said.

Charlotte-based online shoe retailer Heels.com chose Wednesday as the day it would hand out free shoes to women who came to use JobLink’s job search services.

“I’m just very glad we’re in a position to be able to help these people today,” said Linda McCoy, co-owner of Heels.com.

It wasn’t just about the shoes, though.  It was about self esteem.

“When you feel and look confidant you go in there and put that best attitude on. We as women, once our feet look good, we feel good,” said JobLink’s Sylvia Moore.

The hope was that the simple act of kindness would give the women the boost they’d need to either continue their job searches, or put that best foot forward during a first interview.

Over the past several months JobLink has seen a significant increase in the number of people displaced from major corporations, and the construction and hospitality industries who are now using their offices for help in searching for jobs and brushing up their resumes.

Along with it’s job search resources, JobLink offers another option tailored toward job seekers who might not have an advanced degree.

The organization partners with Central Piedmont Community College to offer a Career Readiness Certificate.  After taking three tests, in applied mathematics, reading for information, and locating information, you are given a certificate recognized by the NC Department of Labor.

This proves to employers, when you hand that resume in, you already have the skills they’re looking for.

It costs $30.  For more information click the link above titled “Charlotte-Mecklenburg JobLink”.
